A man who allegedly stole a vehicle then ran away when officers approached him was found hiding inside a plastic trash can Friday in Pleasanton, Sgt. Pat Walsh said Monday.

Police responded to reports of a vehicle theft on Main Street around 1:45 p.m. and found two suspects inside the vehicle on Vineyard Avenue, about half a mile away from where the vehicle was reportedly stolen, according to Walsh.

Justin Spinelli, the 23-year-old man driving the stolen vehicle, remained inside thevehicle when police approached, Walsh said.

However, 36-year-old Armand Smith dashed from the passenger seat of the vehicle to a nearby housing complex, according to Walsh.

Police barricaded the area and used a dog to find Smith, who was tucked inside a plastic trash can outside the housing complex, Walsh said.
