A car was pulled out of Spreckels Lake Tuesday night after veering off the road to avoid a collision, according to police.

Video taken by a witness at the scene, Patrick Leung, shows a tow truck slowly pulling the vehicle out of the Golden Gate Park lake, which is normally used for sailing model boats, with a cable as emergency officials stand by.

Tuesday night at about 10 p.m. the San Francisco Police Department got a call about a vehicle collision near 36th Avenue, according to Officer Robert Rueca.

“Officers who arrived on scene found a victim who had driven into Spreckels Lake to avoid a collision with another vehicle,” Rueca said in a statement.

Police are investigating two other vehicles that “may have been involved” in the collision. No injuries were reported related to the incident.

Reports on the social media crime-sharing app Citizen suggested the crash may have been caused by a street race, but SFPD did not confirm those reports.

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department is waiting on a “full damage assessment” from staff, said Tamara Barak Aparton, a Recreation and Parks spokesperson, who confirmed there was damage to the nearby grassy area.
