A man was flung into a tree after he was hit by a car, which was sent spinning out of control after a collision with a Muni bus, police said.

The accident at The Embarcadero and Howard Street was the second Muni-related accident during the Memorial Day weekend.

On Monday at 8:48 a.m., a woman driving southbound on Embarcadero in an older model Lexus ran a red light at The Embarcadero and Howard Street, according to San Francisco police. As she ran the red light, a Muni bus running on the 12-Folsom line was making a left from Howard onto The Embarcadero and the two vehicles collided, police said.

The car then spun out of control and hit a man who was thrown, hitting his head against a tree, police said. The victim, who was in his 60s, was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, and he is expected to live, police said.

Muni service along the 12-Folsom line was not affected beyond the bus involved in the accident being taken out of service, said Judson True, spokesman for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

The accident was at least thesecond involving a Muni bus during the weekend.

On Saturday morning, 73-year-old Yu Wen Liu was walking in a crosswalk on Market and Sixth streets when she was struck by a 71-Haight-Noriega bus. She died, making her the second Muni-related pedestrian death this year.
