A boat has been caught with what appears to be a large quantity of marijuana at Pescadero State Beach, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
Around 8:07 a.m., the Sheriff's Office received several reports of a suspicious white boat and a vehicle at the beach. Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt says sheriffs responded to the scene and discovered what appeared to be marijuana in both vessels.
Investigators found roughly 42 bales of what they believe to be marijuana, each weighing about 25-30 pounds, according to Andrew Muñoz, a Homeland Security spokesperson.
“It looks like the boat landed at the beach, they were met by a vehicle that they were going to offload onto,” Muñoz said. “When investigators arrived, it looks like the vehicle was stuck in the sand and the operation was abandoned.”
Homeland Security, State Parks Police, and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Task Force were at the scene this morning, but the investigation was taken over by Homeland Security because the incident appears to involve smuggling and therefore falls under federal jurisdiction.
No suspects are in custody at this time. The investigation is ongoing and Muñoz had no estimate on when the stuck vehicle might be extracted from the sand.
