Pizza Hut-to-Chipotle switcheroo requires city’s blessing

San Francisco’s chain-store laws mean a Chipotle restaurant will need Planning Commission approval before opening for business inside a mall storefront that was formerly occupied by Pizza Hut.

Proposed operators of the Chipotle outlet applied for permits needed to open for business in a 1,600-square foot storefront in Lakeshore Plaza Shopping Center, which is on Sloat Boulevard.

A Planning Commission hearing to consider the matter is scheduled for Sept. 16.

Such hearings are required by The City’s voter-mandated formula retail laws, which generally force companies with 11 or more outlets to secure neighborhood support and city approval before opening new San Francisco locations.
