Newsom faces tight race in November

Mayor Gavin Newsom might be losing steam in the race for lieutenant governor. The most recent poll shows that Newsom, the Democratic candidate, and his opponent Republican Abel Maldonado are tied, according to a SurveyUSA poll released Thursday.

The poll shows Newsom, who is the lead with fundraising, ahead with 43 percent and Maldonado with 42 percent.  Newsom responded to the poll, saying he’s not taking anything for granted in this race.

“It’s going to be a close race we knew that from day one, it’s going to be competitive,” Newsom said. “We had our work cut out for us and by September and October we are going to be running full steam."
