Newsom enlists arts organizations to locate at mid-Market area

The attempts made to revitalize the mid-Market neighborhood are seemingly endless.

Starting Thursday afternoon, there will be a new arts festival and fair at the UN Plaza between noon and 8 p.m., showcasing artists from all over The City. It’s another initiative launched by the Mayor’s Office as a way to “organize” the arts and create a new dimension to the central Market area.

Mayor Gavin Newsom said his office is working with arts foundations that have identified 75 arts organizations ready to move into space located in the mid-Market district.

“Arts will be the economic catalyst for revitalizing the central Market area,” Newsom said. “The artistic contributions are self-evident.”
