Even if the police chief says residents have nothing to worry about in light of a recent string of armed robberies, Mayor Gavin Newsom isn’t turning a blind eye.
Sure, there is a crime in a big city — that’s part of living in San Francisco, Newsom told reporters Wednesday. He then rattled off statistics to show that San Francisco is still a safe city, well safer than it was last year.
Homicides are down 7 percent from last year and violent crime is down by 12 percent, he noted. Having said that, Newsom admitted “we could do better and we could do more.”
