Letter circulated asking for planning leader's ouster

In the wake of the porn scandal that’s cost veteran city planners their jobs, an anonymous letter was sent around last week to planning staffers asking them to support a campaign to fire the head of the Planning Department, John Rahaim.

Rahaim confirmed the letter was circulated; he first saw the letter Friday and was, naturally, a bit surprised to see such harsh words written about him.

“It said something to the effect of me not being competent,” Rahaim said. “It’s essentially a referendum asking the mayor to fire me.”

While surprised by the anonymous letter, Rahaim also understands that “emotions are running high given the current situation here,” he said.

A handful of city planners were fired in May after an uncensored pornographic email was sent around the office.

The letter accuses the director of firing without due process and canning veteran employees for minor computer offenses.

But Rahaim plans to meet with his staff tomorrow to clear up these misunderstandings. In other words he wants to remind them that circulating “sexually-related materials” on city computers is fairly egregious.
