Harding Park will continue to operate at a loss

The City’s famed Harding Park Golf Course will continue to be subsidized by The City despite the fee hike approved by the Board of Supervisors in a second and final vote Tuesday. The vote was 10-0. Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier was excused from the meeting.

Nonresidents will start paying $15 more to hit the links. Weekday rates will increase from $135 to $150 and weekend rates from $155 to $170, which is about a 10 percent increase.

Fees for residents are also expected to go up based on a consumer price index adjustment, a rate hike that does not require Board of Supervisors approval.

Even with making it more expensive to play, the course will not break even. The operating shortfall will be about $375,000, which will be paid for out of the city and county’s general fund.
