District 10 youth can meet the candidates

Bayview/Hunter’s Point teens will have a chance to grill supervisorial candidates on matters that affect them as part of the “Hear Our Voices” event.

The youth-led forum is organized by the International Studies Academy, The Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts and John O’Connell High School and fully sponsored by College Prep Institute. It will allow students in the area to meet candidates who could potentially make decisions based on their needs, including safety on the streets, improved employment and better graduation rates among African Americans.

District 10 is the largest of The City’s 11 supervisor districts, encompassing Potrero Hill, Bayview Hunters Point, Visitacion Valley, Silver Terrace, Dogpatch, Little Hollywood, and the Portola neighborhoods.

Supervisor Sophie Maxwell is set to term out of the seat, leaving the race open to 22 candidates vying for the seat. The district’s voters will decide their supervisor in the Nov. 2 Gubernatorial election.

The forum begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Bayview Opera House, 4705 Third Street.
