Discussions on the sit-lie ordinance keep standing around.
The City’s Civil Sidewalks Coalition will discuss the proposed law again Monday afternoon.
A sit/lie ordinance was first introduced following months of complaints of the abuse and intimidation from street dwellers from a group of residents and merchants in the Haight neighborhood.
Shortly after, police Chief George Gascón responded to their concerns, suggesting a “sit and lie” ordinance should be implemented.
Last week, however, the Board of Supervisors rejected the legislation in an 8-3 vote.
Mayor Gavin Newsom says he will bring the ordinance to the public for a vote in November.
A meeting at 1 p.m. Monday with the sidewalk coalition will further investigate the reason people sit and lay on public sideways and if it’s a chronic problem.
