Mayor Ed Lee will be announcing his pick this morning to replace former Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi in San Francisco’s District 5. Mirkarimi was sworn in as sheriff over the weekend, officially vacating his supervisor seat.

Lee will make the announcement at 10:30 a.m. from the Mayor’s Office balcony at City Hall.

District 5 is typically described as a “progressive” district. With this appointment, Lee has the opportunity to tilt the Board of Supervisors in a more moderate direction.
