Big city California mayors want Ed Lee to stay in the club for the next four years.
A slew of endorsements released by Lee’s campaign Thursday show that the mayors of San Jose, Los Angeles and Sacramento are in support, along with the mayor Philadelphia.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said his city shares in San Francisco’s budget pain.
“As cities grapple with deep state and federal cuts and a still-struggling national economy, San Franciscans already have a true champion and proven advocate for their interests at the state and national level in Mayor Lee,” Villaraigosa said in a statement.
San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed called Lee an effective partner in finding regional solutions to transportation and environmental issues. But curiously missing from the endorsement list is Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, who is facing a storm of criticism over her handling of the Occupy Oakland protests across the Bay.
Lee also got the official nod from his Room 200 predecessor last month when Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom announced his endorsement of the mayor at a tech company tour.
