A political attack with a personal touch

It is not every day that a political attack comes with a handwritten note and a smiley face.

But when the Leland Yee mayoral campaign delivered books about Mayor Ed Lee to doorsteps in San Francisco, at least some of the books had a personal touch attached.

The notes included such phrases as “Don’t vote for me… Enjoy my book… Ed” and “Enjoy the book! Don’t vote Ed Lee for 1, 2 or 3.” Some notes included a smiley face.

The book was a parody of “The Ed Lee Story: An Unexpected Mayor,” which went out to San Franciscans early this month. Some copies of those books included a note “We hope you enjoy the book! Vote Ed for mayor! <smiley face>”
