'Mr. Clean' to be in charge of city public works

It’s official, Mr. Clean is now the head of the Department of Public Works – Mr. Clean being the nickname of Mohammed Nuru, an 11-year-veteran of DPW who has never been afraid to get his hands dirty.

Starting Aug. 15, Nuru will replace outgoing Director Ed Reiskin who was recently appointed as Executive Director of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

“His vision has resulted in numerous accomplishments from improving the cleanliness of the streets and sidewalks to the successful management of construction projects that reinvigorate and modernize the public realm,” City Administrator Amy Brown said in a letter to DPW employees.

Mayor Ed Lee also played a large role in promoting Nuru. With Reiskin, he now has two former employees he supervised both as head of DPW and as city administrator reporting directly to his office.
