A ninth candidate for mayor has filed to receive taxpayer money from The City’s public financing program, and odds are that he’ll be the last.

The Ethics Commission is currently perusing the application for public funds of Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting. If approved, Ting would follow Michela Alioto Pier ($423,000), John Avalos ($50,000), David Chiu ($183,380), Bevan Dufty (514,133), Tony Hall ($208,236), Dennis Herrera ($534,507), Joanna Rees ($429,928) and Leland Yee ($399,327) in receiving public funds for their campaigns (numbers in parentheses are funds dispersed as of July 19).

To be approved for public financing, a candidate must prove they have received at least $25,000 from San Francisco residents. Making that even more difficult is that those contributions must be between $10 and $100.

So far, $2,742,711 has been dispersed with a lot more money expected to be doled out. Any other mayoral candidates who are looking to get public financing better get moving. The deadline to be qualified is Aug. 29.
