All-electronic tolling on the Golden Gate Bridge could become one step closer to reality later this week.

On Thursday, the bridge district’s finance committee will vote on a measure to approve the framework for all-electronic tolling in anticipation of upcoming contract negotiations on the plan.

The bridge district has recommended a series of options for motorists to pay the toll, the most common one being the FasTrak transponder, which is currently used by 67 percent of motorists.

Other options include one-time payments, where motorists can pay at a nearby retail location; license-plate invoices, where a camera captures a photo of the car’s plate and sends a bill to the home address; and automatic deduction from the motorist’s debit or credit card accounts.

If these frameworks for the plan are approved on Thursday, they will go before the full board of directors on Friday for final authorization. That will clear the way for the district to begin contract negotiations with a vendor to run the all-electronic tolling system, which is scheduled to be in place by next year.
