Muni operators to support cab strike — transit service won’t be affected

Muni’s transit operators will support taxi cab drivers in their planned strike — but the scenario won’t be nearly as bad as it sounds for people trying to get around San Francisco.

Cabbies are planning a two-hour strike starting at noon
, and scores of the drivers are expected to show up at City Hall and speak before the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s board of directors. In a show of solidarity with their fellow transportation providers, several Muni operators are expected to attend the board meeting as well, to back up the concerns of the drivers.

A group from Transport Workers Union Local 250-A called the Operators Organizing Committee has sent out a release, saying the SFMTA, which regulates Muni and cabs in The City, is trying to balance its budget on the back of cab drivers, transit operators and other workers.

The operators won’t be taking the day off from work, so Muni service won’t be affected. But with all the folks expected to speak today at the SFMTA board meeting, there’s going to be heavy traffic inside City Hall.
