A CVS pharmacy opening up at 3132 Clement St. obtained a permit Tuesday to sell alcohol. While Supervisor John Avalos opposed the permit, the rest of the board had no problem with it. The permit was approved in a 10-1 vote Tuesday.
Avalos said his main concern was that there was already an alcohol sales permit for the Fresh and Easy grocery store on the same site. “It doesn’t make sense to have two liquor licenses in the same building,” Avalos said.
Supervisor Eric Mar, whose district includes the new CVS pharmacy site, said there are 13 restrictions in place on the permit that will help protect against adverse impacts of selling alcohol such as limit sale hours, requirements for additional lighting and installation of surveillance cameras.
