Mayor Ed Lee and environmentalists to talk greenhouse gases

Remember back in 2008 when then-Mayor Gavin Newsom celebrated a 5 percent decrease in greenhouse gas emissions in San Francisco between 1990 and 2005, all while campaigning against a contentious ballot measure on public power?

Well, in case you forgot, Newsom pledged to increase that percentage to 7 percent by 2012. Now that Newsom is gone, don’t think that Mayor Ed Lee is going to forget about it. Lowering greenhouse gas emissions in San Francisco is going to be up for discussion again Wednesday when Lee attends The City’s first Green Economy Forum.

Several local climate action committees will be discussing ways to further save the environment through business, energy independence, transportation and more, according to the Department of the Environment.
