The first round of voting has been completed over the right for Muni’s transit operators to potentially stage a strike, but the organization isn’t revealing how the results went just yet.

The Transport Workers Union Local 250-A, which represents 2,200 Muni operators, is in the midst of a seven-day vote that could determine whether the agency will give President Rafael Cabrera the power to OK a work stoppage if current labor negotiations falter.

The voting began Friday and the first round results have been tallied, but the organization is still pondering whether to make the news public, said Walter Scott, secretary-treasurer for the union.

Scott has told The Examiner that the union would only consider striking if negotiations “go south.” Under the union’s current contract with management, work stoppages are implicitly prohibited.
