Mayor Ed Lee performs Shakespeare to more than 100

Mayor Ed Lee has donned a lot of hats in his career, and after Thursday perhaps actor could be one.

Lee was visiting with some community-based organizations at the African-American Art & Culture Complex, when the director informed him there were a bunch of students from Horace Mann Middle School and Willie Brown Academy enjoying a performance in the Buriel Clay Theater of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night by the African-American Shakespeare Company.

Lee couldn’t pass up a chance to say hello. He got on stage, during intermission, and said, “I’ve always wanted to do this: ‘To be, or not to be.’” Lee might as well have said: “To be, or not to be – the mayor” given the rampant speculation surrounding whether he will run for mayor. Lee continues to say he will not run. Also, Lee is said to have reluctantly accepted the appointment in the first place.
