SFPD chief search, community policing in spotlight tonight

Supervisors will try to shine some sun on the police chief search this evening as a special meeting of the Public Safety Committee convenes at 6 p.m.

There’s been some grumbling over who got interviews and who got ignored in the search for the replacement of George Gascón. Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi read off a list last week of people who were left out and then called for a hearing on the process.

But before the juicy stuff gets going, the committee will talk about something a little more on the policy side: the definition and execution of “community policing.” Supervisor David Campos wants to hear from the Police Department and Mayor’s Office about how it’s all going.

And if you want to hear about it too, the meeting is at City Hall tonight at 6 p.m.
