As an attorney and former investigator for The City’s first whistleblower program, Mayor Ed Lee is no stranger to scandalous abuses of power.
So when asked Saturday about multiple investigations into six SFPD officers caught on video searching residential hotel rooms without warrants, searches that were apparently lied about in police reports, he showed obvious concern.
“I’m not ready to jump to conclusions,” said Lee, who expressed his faith in the Police Department, Office of Citizen Complaints and Police Commission to explore any changes in training and policy when it comes to plainclothes raids.
But Lee did hint that police officers sometimes justify the means with the ends.
“Police officers do their best to get to these drugs, but they’ve got to follow the rules,” he said.
