Nat Ford rumored to be leaving Muni, again

We will excuse Muni passengers and other followers of the beleaguered agency if they’ve heard this refrain before: Nathaniel Ford is in the running for another top-level job.

Monday’s news that Ford is the frontrunner for the chief position at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority should come as no surprise to anyone who’s followed Muni news over the past several years.

In September, Ford was mentioned as a finalist for the top spot at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, a rumor that never developed further. In 2009, he was linked to a job opening up at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in Los Angeles. Before that, there were murmurings that he could bolt San Francisco for spots in New York or Houston.

Reports from the Washington, D.C., area indicate that Ford is considered the favorite for the airports authority position (and some aren’t happy about that. What that actually means is anyone’s guess.
