An SFPD inspector terminated in 2009 in part because of an incident involving Antioch police has settled a lawsuit against that city for $750,000.

Marvetia Richardson claimed in a federal civil rights suit that she was unnecessarily shocked with a Taser by Antioch police. The incident happened during a dispute with a tenant at her home in which police got involved.

The former San Francisco police inspector was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest in the June 2007 incident. The charges were later dismissed.

But her superiors at the SFPD cited the arrest, along with accusations that she cashed more than $25,000 in fraudulent checks, as a reason to fire her. The Police Commission upheld the termination.

Richardson is currently suing the department for wrongful termination.

The settlement comes as the SFPD once again debates arming its officers with Tasers.
