The eighth time is the charm for the unflappable Charlotte Mailliard Schultz, who has agreed to be Mayor Ed Lee’s chief of protocol.

Like seven mayors before him, Schultz will advise Lee on matters of diplomatic graces such as how to greet the mayor of Bangalore or when to wear a tux and tails. She returns to The City after a six-year stint with the administration of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“Charlotte brings years of experience, tremendous stewardship, and an unparalleled commitment to public service,” Lee said in a statement. “She is a legend in our City Hall and a tremendous asset to San Francisco, showcasing our world class city around the world. I am proud to reappoint her to the position and grateful for her willingness to serve the people of our City.”
