The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will present its final plan for completely funding the $1.6 billion Central Subway project.
In November, nearly $140 million was still unidentified for the plan, leading some transit experts to express concerns that the project would not qualify for $869 million in planned federal funding.
Since then, the SFMTA has said that the missing funds can be made up through uncommitted state bonds and project savings. On Tuesday, that funding plan will be presented at the agency’s Board of Directors meeting. If approved by the board, that plan will go before federal officials next month for final authorization.
Projected to be in service by 2019, the Central Subway will extend Muni’s Metro service from the SoMa district to Chinatown.
