Hearing set on ferry fare changes

Ferry riders who travel to San Francisco from the East Bay will get a chance to weigh in on separate proposals to change fares.

The Water Emergency Transportation Authority, a newly formed regional agency, is to set to take over ferry operations between San Francisco and Oakland/Alameda this year.

To meet compliance with federal regulations, WETA is poised to lower fares for seniors and disabled passengers. It has also proposed to raise fares by 25 cents for service to AT&T Park, due to new docking fee imposed by the Port of San Francisco.

At its Board of Directors meeting on Thursday, WETA will host a public hearing on its fare proposals. The public hearing will take place at 7 p.m. at the Alameda City Hall.

If the board approves the proposals, the fare decrease for seniors will go into effect Feb. 1, and the AT&T Park increase will be in place by the time of the Giants’ season opener.
