Cast a Twitter vote for Newsom replacement

You can cast a vote on Twitter for who will be the replacement for Mayor Gavin Newsom, who is leaving to take his post as lieutenant governor by Jan. 10.

The voting on Twitter is run though the website sfmayorvote.com that asks "Who should be interim SF Mayor?"

The site also tabulates the votes and shows who is in the lead. As of Sunday afternoon, former Board of Supervisors member and once-mayoral-hopeful Matt Gonzalez led the unofficial race. Rounding out the top five were Board of Supervisors President David Chiu, San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera, termed-out Supervisor Bevan Dufty and state Assemblyman Tom Ammiano.

Of the people being voted for in the Twitter competition, Herrera and Dufty are already considering mayoral runs this year. However, Ammiano does not want the interim mayor position.

The tally also has not generated many votes. The leader had garnered just 32 votes as of Sunday afternoon for the first-place spot. The voting is, however, extremely transparent with the Twitter profiles of each supporter being displayed below the vote.
