While San Francisco lawmakers are dragging their feet to select an interim mayor to fill the seat of Lt. Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom when he leaves in January, the list of those who actually want to be mayor keeps growing.

On Wednesday, City Assessor Phil Ting is expected to file papers, kicking off the start of what he says will be a “different kind of campaign.”

Ting’s move brings the list of mayoral wannabes to 18, which includes well-known names like Supervisor Bevan Dufty and state Sen. Leland Yee, according to the Department of Elections.

Of course, they can only form committees to start hitting up voters for cash. They won’t officially become candidates until they file nomination papers, a process that starts in July.
