Terminal construction contract worth $187 million up for approval

A $187 million construction contract could be approved this week for work on the new Transbay Transit Center, San Francisco’s future downtown transportation hub that is slated to one day the host the terminus of the state’s high-speed rail project.

The Transbay Joint Powers Authority, which oversees development plans on the project, will vote Friday on approving the contract with Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Inc., the contractor that submitted the lowest bid for the construction work, which will entail buttress, shoring and excavation.

Set to open in 2017, the Transbay Transit Center will replace the existing Transbay Terminal, which was built in 1939.
