The Laguna Honda Hospital has its opening ceremony Saturday.
The project has been a long time coming, with cost overruns and disputes.
The project was originally sold as 1,200 skilled nursing beds as called for in the 1999 bond measure approved by voters.
Escalating costs forced the scaling back of the project. An entire building originally planed was abandoned.
The project comes in at $584 million. It was supposed to cost about $420 million. It also is finishing up two years later than planned.
