San Carlos man accused of dining, ditching, dawdling

This suspect was apparently weighed down by his criminal cravings.

A parolee was arrested Friday on suspicion of consuming $70 worth of food at a San Carlos sports bar and leaving without paying the bill, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

About 2 p.m., deputies said, 44-year-old Patrick Higgins allegedly had a feast before fleeing out the rear door of Sneakers Pub & Grill, located at 1163 San Carlos Ave. The food must have weighed heavily on him. Deputies caught up to the 6-foot, 250-pound San Carlos resident while he was “walking” nearby on Elm Street.

To Higgins’ credit, the citizen who flagged down a deputy about the theft did see the alleged crook “running south through the Wells Fargo parking lot while being chased by restaurant employees,” according to sheriff’s deputies.

Higgins was identified by restaurant employees and further investigation revealed that he was on parole for a theft conviction in Marin County.
