A man was beaten into unconsciousness with a handgun after leaving a check cashing business in the Tenderloin on Tuesday night, police said.

The 45-year-old victim was reportedly counting his cash while walking near Turk and Jones streets when two goons attacked him at about 7 p.m.

One of the suspects grabbed him and held him while the other hit him with a gun until he was unconscious, police said. They then stole his cash and fled.

He was transported to St. Francis Hospital with lumps on his head and jaw, police said, but is expected to survive.

As of Wednesday, police were still hunting for the suspects, described as men in their 20s toting a silver revolver.
