Man jumped, critically injured outside Inner Richmond bar

A 26-year-old man was brutally assaulted outside an Inner Richmond district bar early Sunday morning, police said.

The victim and a friend were in a bar in the 3900 block of Geary Boulevard about 1 a.m. when the victim went outside, police Officer spokesman Gordon Shyy said. The friend went outside a few minutes later and found the victim face down on the sidewalk and then took him to the hospital.

Third-party witnesses said the victim was jumped by a group of men and kicked in the head numerous times, Shyy said. The suspects fled the area before the victim’s friend came outside.

The victim’s head injuries were considered life threatening, Shyy said, but he is expected to survive. There was no description of the suspects available Monday morning.
