Two men held in Bayview slaying

Two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting last week of a Southern California man who had been driving in the Bayview district, police announced Tuesday.

Lupe Mercado, 37, and Barry Gilton, 38, both of San Francisco, were booked into County Jail on charges that they allegedly shot and killed 22-year-old Calvin Sneed of Compton on June 4.

Sneed was near Bayview Park at Meade and Le Conte avenues about 2 a.m. when he was shot in the head, police said.

His vehicle then crashed into a parked car. He was pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital about three hours later.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting, and they ask anyone with information about the killing to come forward.
