More victims found in luck charm scam

Another victim came forward Friday in the wide-reaching jewelry scam targeting Asians. A woman told police that she fell for a group of con artists’ unlucky charms — to the tune of $24,000.

San Francisco police have been making arrests and warning the public about a sophisticated scam where Asian women are targeted by cons who work in tandem to convince the women that a bracelet brings fortune and good luck.

Authorities have said the local incidents are part of a nationwide ring.

The latest reported incident happened in Visitacion Valley. The victim told police about an incident that occurred in March. When she exited a Muni bus at Bayshore Boulevard and Leland Avenue she was approached by the suspects and ultimately convinced to withdraw $24,000 from her bank to buy a bracelet.

Police are asking for other victims to come forward with their stories, Sgt. Daryl Fong said.
