New residents greeted by looted home, gang signs

A family received a hostile welcome to their new Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood Monday: They reportedly came home to find their apartment cleaned out and a local gang sign carved on a kitchen wall.

Police responded to the burglary call in the 1000 block of Palou Avenue about 11:30 p.m. A woman said the family was in the process of moving into the apartment and had last visited it Friday.

On Monday, police said, she found the front window broken, doors unlocked and heaps of furniture stolen. Losses included a refrigerator, stove, kitchen table and chairs, sofas, five mattresses and five dressers, the victim told police.

“The kitchen wall had an acronym for a local gang scratched into the drywall,” police added.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday, police said.
