Mission district crackdown nets 31 arrests

A crime crackdown at the bustling intersection of 16th and Mission streets has netted 31 arrests since March 27, police said Friday.

Most arrests were for narcotics and warrant violations, Mission Station police Capt. Bob Moser said on the station’s website.

The intersection, home to BART station plazas, has been a playground for criminals for years.

To offset the unruliness, uniformed and plainclothes officers have been deployed in the area on foot, bicycles and in cars, Moser said.

In one arrest earlier this month, according to the police captain, a citizen told cops someone stole his new electric scooter from him at the intersection. He had installed a GPS locator on the scooter, leading cops to the Bayview. The scooter was recovered and a suspect arrested, Moser said.
