A 39-year-old Central Valley man has been identified as The City’s ninth homicide victim this year after a shooting Friday evening in the Mission District.

Ronald Monzon, of Newman, was found inside a vehicle that had crashed into a second, unoccupied vehicle at 23rd and Shotwell streets at about 7:30 p.m., authorities said. He was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital, where he died.

Police received calls of shots fired in the area at 7:22 p.m.

Police said there was no known motive to the shooting, and no suspect description. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411.

The homicide is the second this year in the Mission. In the early morning hours of Feb. 19, 47-year-old Richard Sprague was found dead on Julian Avenue near 15th Street. He is believed to have been strangled.
