Crooked self-employed bookkeeper Kenneth McCall showed “no remorse” when he was sentenced Thursday for swindling a widowed Iraqi war veteran, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.
McCall, 65, of Bribane, received a four-month jail sentence after pleading no contest to a felony embezzlement count. He was ordered to pay back all the money he was accused of stealing, totaling $30,200.
McCall was hired to care for the soldier’s finances while he served overseas. He was accused of spending $14,000 from the soldier’s credit union account and nearly $17,000 on his credit card. He spent the money on himself, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said, including purchases at Best Buy, Petco and CompUSA.
