Heartless crook steals South City woman's wheelchair, walker

A heartless crook stole a South San Francisco woman’s wheelchair and walker last week while she waited for a ride to her doctor’s appointment, police said.

The thief swiped the 65-year-old woman's items from the sidewalk while she was inside her home in the 100 block of Gardiner Avenue about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. She had been awaiting a pick-up from a Redi-Wheels van, police said.

The suspect, described as a man in his 30s, loaded the items into the back of an unmarked white bobtail truck with a roll-up door, police said.

The theft occurred after the woman’s caregiver stepped back inside the home for a moment. The caregiver tried to stop the man, but he drove away, police said. He was last seen driving on Chapman Avenue toward Airport Boulevard.

Anyone with information on this theft is asked to call South San Francisco Police at (650) 877-8900.
