A 44-year-old man is dead after being stabbed while at a homeless shelter in The City’s South of Market neighborhood, police said late Monday. It was the fourth homicide reported in San Francisco this year.
The stabbing occurred about 7:10 p.m. Monday at 525 Fifth St., police reported. The incident is still under investigation, but the wound the victim suffered “proved fatal.”
Limited information about the incident was available Monday evening. Police said the suspect was a black man who fled the scene.
The address where the incident occurred is a homeless shelter run by the Catholic organization St. Vincent Du Paul. According to the organization’s website, the Fifth Street location is a drop-in homeless center that provides showers, case management, information, emergency clothing and laundry facilities.
