Muni proved to be a tough place for criminal operations last year, based on new statistics from the San Francisco Police Department.

Officers with the police department’s Muni Task Force made 123 arrests last year, nailing criminals for transgressions that included aggravated assaults, pickpocket thefts, vandalism, and illegally reselling transfers. Out of 130 total cases last year, 126 were declared closed, a 97 percent rate, according to the police department. Three cases did not result in arrests, and four are still open investigations.

Passengers immediately reporting crimes, video surveillance and quick response times from officers helped the department achieve the 97 percent rate, said Officer Albie Esparza of the San Francisco police department.

Of the crimes recorded on Muni property last year, the most occurred within the confines of the Mission police district. That area recorded 29 incidents, while the Ingleside district had 21 and the Bayview 17.
