The two suspects arrested after allegedly firing a pellet gun at paragliders on the Peninsula coast over the weekend plead not guilty Monday to charges of assault, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

Edward Amatori, 49, of San Francisco, and Alex Attard, 38, of Daly City, are charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon after reportedly firing a .22-gauge pellet gun Saturday at three people who were preparing to go paragliding in Mussel Rock Park.

Amatori was convicted of a misdemeanor charge in August of 2011 for a similar charge, where he was arrested for firing a pellet gun in the same general vicinity, Wagstaffe said. Amatori is on probation after serving 45 days in jail for the previous charge.

Both suspects remain in custody on $25,000 bail, Wagstaffe said. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. in the South San Francisco courthouse.
