An East Palo Alto man who burglarized seven cars parked at the entrance of a running trail in San Mateo County was sentenced to seven months in county jail on Monday.
Jesus Moises Ibarra, 21, of East Palo Alto, pleaded no contest to felony possession of stolen property and misdemeanor identity theft, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Ibarra committed the robberies between the hours of 8:50 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at Alpine Road and Piers Lane. Apparently the runners were rather trusting of the neighborhood. In each case, purses were left in plain view on the rear car seat, Wagstaffe said.
A police investigation led to Ibarra’s arrest. He possessed credit cards stolen during four of the burglaries, Wagstaffe said.
Ibarra was credited Monday with 91 days for time already served in jail. He also received three years supervised probation.
