Shots fired during CHP chase in downtown San Francisco

A suspect fleeing California Highway Patrol officers during a car chase into downtown San Francisco late Saturday pulled a gun and fired at the officers before crashing and fleeing on foot, San Francisco police said.

Police were notified about unknown number of shots being fired at CHP vehicles at 11:30 p.m.

The suspect vehicle crashed a half-block away from the Transamerica Building and the suspect fled on foot, according to police.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area but the suspect was able to elude capture, police said.

A CHP spokesman was not immediately available for comment Sunday.
