A car thief hit a homerun in a Monday heist. The vehicle stolen out of a McDonald’s parking lot in Walnut Creek contained bats and balls signed by the "Big Mac" — San Francisco Giants Hall of Famer Willie McCovey.

The owner of the stolen 2011 Hyundai Sonata left his key in the ignition when he grabbed a coffee at the McDonald’s on California Boulevard around 7:10 a.m., police said.

The thief then took off with the car — along with valuable baseball memorabilia. The car’s trunk also contained a commercial kitchen mixer, police said.

Surveillance video at the fast food chain captured the theft and got a good look at the crook. He was described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 feet 10 inches, with a thin build, shaved head and goatee. He was wearing a tan button-down shirt with green pants.

Police have asked anyone who comes across any Willie McCovey bats or balls to call Walnut Creek police at (925) 943-5844 and ask for Officer Jeha.
